What is E-mail?

The term electronics mail typically refers to messages sent from computer to computer through local area networks or wide area networks and the internet. Electronic Mail is sent from one computer screen to another. The receiver of the message may be next - door or thousands of miles away. The receiver of the message reads the message after it appear on a computer screen. It can then be printed out as hard copy although a hard copy is often unnecessary. Messages can be filed and stored in electronic folders much as other company files are stored on disks.

Electronic mail eliminates the frustration and expense of telephone tag. It allows the receiver of the message to respond at a convenient time instead of answering the telephone when it rings.

Email as they are popularly called are message that are composed, transmitted and usually read on the computer screens. They have virtually replaced the traditional letters and are perhaps soon going to replace the telephone as the preferred means of communication. In fact, emails have become so popular that there is a substantial increase in the amount of information, we are flodded with through this medium.

Advantages of Email :-
  1. Transmission of messages is almost instantaneous.
  2. Messages are often more personal and informal.
  3. Telephone tag is reduced on eliminated.
  4. Time necessary for meeting is reduced.
  5. Hard copy letters and memos can often be replaced.
  6. Message can be sent at any time, day or night decreasing problems brought about by differences in time zones.
  7. Message can be sent to many receives simultaneously.
Disadvantages of Email :-
  1. Computer with Internet facility is the first requirement for E-Mail.
  2. Person who want to send or receive email should have knowledge of Computer & English Language.
